ABOUT ME
Hi!
My name is Federica Fusi, and I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Public Policy, Management, and Analytics at the University of Illinois Chicago.
My research focuses on public interest technlogy - in particular, how public organizations can leverage digital tools to enhance their performance and improve outcomes for their communities, while minimizing the negative effects on their workforce. I also investigate the managerial challenges associated with the implementation of open data and data repositories in both the public sector and science.
Currently, I am working on several research projects related to the use, visualization, and sharing of environmental justice data, for which I received a Civic Engagement Research Award from the Institute for Policy and Civic Engagement at UIC. In 2020, I also received an NSF Rapid grant to examine how scientists’ values guided their response to COVID-19 and shaped data sharing through either self-organized practices or government-funded data centers. Additionally, I am exploring how cities across the US are addressing and defining digital equity.
I received my PhD in Public Administration and Public Policy at the School of Public Affairs at Arizona State University, where I worked as a research associate at the Center for Science, Technology, and Environmental Policy Studies (C-STEPS). Before moving to the US, I lived in Italy, Paris and Brussels. I got my M.S. in Public Management and International Institutions from Bocconi University (Italy) and my M.A. in Urban Policies and Territorial Strategies from Sciences Po (France). Before being an academic, I worked at the Institute for Policy Analysis and Statistical Research in Milan and co-funded Pagella Politica, Italy's leading fact-checking website.
